CPI (M) Secretary Visits Austin II Village in North Andaman

Mayabunder, Dec. 7: D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee, who is currently on a visit to Mayabunder and Middle Andaman, visited Austin-II village in Mayabunder today (6.12.2025). He was taken to the village from the main road in a procession by villagers.  He held a meeting with the residents of the Austin II village. The village is yet to get electricity and piped water supply despite the matter having been taken up with the authorities during the last several decades.

The villagers narrated the difficulties faced by them due to the callous attitude on the part of the Administration. The residents of the villagers whose ancestors were working under the PC Roy Company from 1951 onwards until its closure and have been cultivating in the land under their possession, were allotted land in some other areas which are found to be unsuitable for cultivation.  They also brought to the notice of the CPI (M) Secretary that their requests for electricity connections have been turned down by the authorities.

The piped water supply has also not been provided to the village despite repeated requests to the authorities. The residents in the village are farmers and daily wage earners. Ayyappan assured the villagers that their problems will be brought to the notice of the authorities concerned and all out efforts will be made to provide drinking water and electricity connection to the Villagers of Austin-II.  He also assured the villagers of all assistance for allotment of the same land where they and their ancestors were staying since 1951.
