Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 3: A 7-Days Capacity Building Training on Nursery Raising – Seedlings, Cuttings, Layering and Grafting was jointly organized by CPR Environmental Education Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram and ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman from 26/11/2025 to 03/12/2025 at ICAR-KVK, South Andaman.
The programme was inaugurated on 26/11/2025 in which chief guest Dr. Y Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK, South Andaman urged the trainees to develop nurseries, establish their produce in market and generate revenue. Various aspects like establishment, types, design, layout, record keeping and economic factors of nursery were discussed. Demonstration on preparation of nursery media, potting mixture, germination of seeds, sowing techniques and application of root hormone was conducted during training programme.
The skill and hands on training on preparation of cuttings, layers and grafts was imparted to trainees. Topics like integrated management of pests and diseases using natural farming principles, concept and preparation of compost and vermicompost were discussed.
The valedictory function was held on 03/12/2025. The chief guest Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (A), ICAR-CIAR, Sri Vijaya Puram addressed the gathering and highlighted the need and scope of nursery establishment in Islands. Dr. Y Ramakrishna emphasized the importance of adopting various plant propagation techniques to generate additional income. Miss Sushma, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), ICAR-KVK, South Andaman and Shri A Gopal, Project Officer, CPR Environmental Education Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram jointly organized and coordinated the training programme under the guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (A), ICAR-CIARI. A total of 50 females actively participated in the training programme.
