Delegate Session of the 10th A&N State Conference of CITU Held at Kerala Samajam

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 22: The Delegate Session of the 10th Andaman & Nicobar State Conference of CITU was held on 21.12.2025 at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair.  R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU A & N State Committee hoisted the CITU flag at the venue of the Conference.  Thereafter, Dr.  K. Hemalata, All India President, CITU and Delegates and observers paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column.  

A presidium comprising R. Surendran Pillai, D. Ayyappan, BC Bhattacharjee and Daniel Aint were elected to conduct the Delegate Session. A condolence resolution moved by SP Kalairajan paid homage to those leaders and workers who passed away since last State Conference held in November 2022.

Inaugurating the Delegate Session, Dr K. Hemalata, All India President of CITU said that yielding to the demand of the corporate in the country, the BJP-led government had enacted the new Labour Codes thereby ending even the limited control of government agencies over the employers.  She asked the leaders and members of unions in A & N Islands to mobilise all the workers working in government and private sectors for the nation-wide massive agitations in the coming months against the Labour Codes. 

She further said that it is the CITU which has been fighting against the anti-working-class policies of the successive governments at the centre ever since these policies were implemented in 1991. Referring to the difficult condition under which the workers are living, Dr Hemalata emphasized the need to create awareness among the working class about the exploitation and inequality prevailing in the society.

B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee presented the report on the functioning of CITU and unions since last Conference held in November 2022.  Anand Rajan presented the Audited Accounts.  15 Delegates from various Unions actively participated in the discussion held on the report of the General Secretary, which were thereafter adopted unanimously by the Session.   

Dr Gouranga Majhi, President, A & N State Committee of All India Kisan Sabha and Suresh Lall, General Secretary, Govt. Pensioners Association also greeted the Delegates. D. Ayyappan, SP Kalairajan, R. Rajendran, P. Sathyapal and M. Yugander moved resolutions on various issues, which were passed by the Delegates. EA Johnson, Convener, Credential Committee presented the Credential Report. 

The Delegate Session elected the new State Committee of CITU.  B. Chandrachoodan and SP Kalairajan were elected as Delegates from A & N Islands to attend the 18th All India Conference of CITU to be held at Vishakapatnam from 31st December, 2025 to 4th January, 2026.
