Delegation of ASHA Workers Present Memorandum of Demands to DC N&M Andaman

Mayabunder, Oct. 13: A delegation of Andaman & Nicobar ASHA Workers Union (CITU)  led by its President  Sarojini Purthy today (13.10.2025) met the  Deputy Commissioner (i/c), North and Middle Andaman at Mayabunder, who is the Chairman of the District Health Mission & District Health Society, and presented a memorandum and discussed various issues relating to the ASHA Workers working in North and Middle Andaman District. The Union delegation brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner that the various incentives due to the ASHA workers are not being paid to them in time. Incentives for many works undertaken by the ASHA Workers of North & Middle Andaman District are not being granted to them now. They demanded complete review of the present system of sanctioning the various incentives and crediting the amount to the bank accounts of each ASHA Worker.  The ASHA Workers are not aware which are the incentives sanctioned and credited to their bank accounts as there is no intimation about it. 

The Union delegation also brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman that their fixed honorarium of Rs. 2,000 per month is also not being paid to the ASHA Workers regularly.  The Union also complained that the UT share of Rs. 500 per month has been discontinued for the last few years while the same is being given to the ASHA Workers working in the South Andaman and Nicobars District and demanded its immediate release with arrears.  

The ASHA Workers Union delegation urged the Deputy Commissioner to grant them the TA and DA for visiting the PHCs/CHCs for attending the meetings as provided under the ASHA Workers’ guidelines of central government.  The ASHA Workers Union also demanded to issue uniforms to all the ASHA Workers. After 2014, uniform was not issued to the ASHA Workers despite repeated requests made by the ASHA Workers. The Union also demanded to issue Identity Cards to all the ASHA Workers working in the North and Middle Andaman District.  Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation that their demands will be looked into sympathetically.
