Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 4: The Department of Posts is organizing the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition for Young People. The competition is scheduled to be held on 10.03.2026, at the Sri Vijaya Puram Centre.
The subject of the competition will be “Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital world.”. Children up to the age of 9-15 years as on 05-05-2026 can participate. The composition must be presented in the form of letter not exceeding 800 words on the given subject. The letter may be written either in English or in any Regional language listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.
The competition will be of one hour duration from 1200 hrs to 1300 hrs on 10.03.2026. The exact venue will be communicated to the candidates after completion of the application process. The winners will be awarded as follows:-
Prize (at Circle Level)
a. First prize: Rs. 25,000/-and a certificate
b. Second prize: Rs.10,000/- and a certificate
c. Third Prize: Rs. 5,000/- and a certificate
Prize (at National Level)
a. First prize: Rs. 50,000/- and a certificate
b. Second prize: Rs. 25,000/- and a certificate
c. Third Prize: Rs. 10,000/- and a certificate
The best entry at the national level shall qualify as the official Indian entry for the international level competition. The UPU will select the award-winning entries. The winners will receive a special medal (gold for 1st, silver for 2nd, and bronze for 3rd) and a certificate, as well as other prizes to commemorate their win (such other prizes to be decided by the UPU). The gold medalist may also be offered a trip to the UPU headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, or an alternative prize to be decided at the sole discretion of the UPU.
Interested candidates are invited to apply to the Centre In-Charge, Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices, O/o the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram-744101. Applications should reach on or before 05-03-2026. Participants need to apply along with three passport photographs using the application format available at the O/o the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram-744101 or from their respective schools.
Individual schools may also conduct the competition for their students across the Islands. Students may apply through their respective schools in the prescribed format, The School Authorities shall forward the applications to the Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices, O/o the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram – 744101 so as to reach on or before 05.03.2026. The participating schools shall conduct the competition at their school on 10.03.2026 from 1200 hrs to 1300 hrs.
