
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 3: Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, during his recent field visit to Ograbraj, inspected the damages caused by a landslide at Ograbraj following the recent incessant rains. The landslide had resulted in the sliding of nearly 40 metres of the village road, posing a serious risk to house located adjacent to the affected stretch.
While taking stock of the situation, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the vulnerability of the residents due to the recurring landslide incidents in the area. He directed the Assistant Engineer (PRI) to immediately prepare an estimate for the repair and restoration of the damaged rural road so that connectivity for the villagers is restored at the earliest.
Recognizing the urgent need for protective interventions, the Deputy Commissioner further instructed that precautionary measures be taken without delay, including the construction of a protection wall and drainage system to arrest further sliding and to ensure the long-term stability of the road and surrounding habitations.
He assured the affected families that the District Administration is fully committed to their safety and welfare and that necessary measures will be taken on priority to mitigate risks arising out of such natural calamities. The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized on regular monitoring of landslide-prone areas and timely execution of preventive works to minimize future disruptions.
