Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 25: The Director General of Police, A&N Islands, felicitated Onge tribal Home Guard Volunteers Shri Raja and Shri Jhaj in a special ceremony held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) yesterday.
The two volunteers were recognized for their exemplary dedication, courage and valuable assistance rendered to the police in the recovery of 6.979 kilograms of Methamphetamine in a case registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
On 16/01/2026, during jungle foot patrolling near Pagla Mundi under the jurisdiction of PS Hut Bay, they played a pivotal role in detecting and recovering 6.979 kilograms of Methamphetamine concealed beneath sand and dry foliage in dense forest terrain.
Notably, this marks the first instance of members from a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) being inducted into active field operations and contributing to a major narcotics seizure. Their familiarity with the local terrain, keen observation, and active participation significantly aided the detection and recovery of the concealed contraband.
Their timely support and involvement reflect the growing strength of inclusive and community-integrated policing in the Islands, further reinforcing the commitment of Andaman & Nicobar Police towards making the Islands drug-free.
In recognition of their outstanding contribution, the DGP awarded Shri Raja and Shri Jhaj with a cash reward of Rs. 10,000/- each along with a Commendation Certificate (CC-I).
The DGP appreciated their sincerity, vigilance, and sense of responsibility, stating that such exemplary cooperation between the community and the police strengthens law enforcement efforts and inspires wider participation in maintaining peace and security.
