
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 26: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, in coordination with the NCC Naval and Army Units of ANI has commenced a two-day Basic Disaster Management Training Programme for 180 NCC Naval and Army Cadets of ANI. The programme is being conducted in four batches which started today at the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan.
The initiative aims to equip NCC cadets with essential life-saving skills and strengthen their role as first responders during disasters in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The training programme covers key components such as Basics of Disaster Management, Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical First Response (MFR), and Fire Safety. The sessions include both theoretical inputs and hands-on practical training conducted by experts from the Disaster Management Department, NDRF, and Fire Services.
Inaugurating the training, Smti Priyanka Kumari, Director (DM) emphasized the importance of the training programme in creating a pool of trained NCC cadets who can serve as first responders, thereby strengthening disaster preparedness and response at the community level.
The Commanding Officer, NCC, Naval Unit, ANI, Lt. Commander, Reyaz Farooq encouraged the cadets to actively participate in the training and uphold the values of discipline and service. The State Consultant (DDM) briefed the participants on the practical components of the programme and highlighted the importance of a professional response during emergencies.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Sudev Kumar, Statistical Officer of the Disaster Management Department.
