
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 6: In a progressive step towards promoting reading culture and enhancing access to knowledge resources, the Directorate of Education inaugurated a Mobile Library Service at North Bay under the Deputy Education Office, Wimberlygunj. The initiative aims to inculcate reading habits among students, tourists, and the general public visiting the island.
The Mobile Library Service was formally inaugurated today by the chief guest, Smti Archana Singh, Deputy Director of Education (Planning) & Nodal Officer, State Library, in the presence of officials from the Directorate of Education, Dr. Manoharan, Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj, Smti Maryam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member, Bambooflat, and Smti Rasheeda, Pradhan, GP Hopetown. The inaugural programme witnessed active participation from education department officials and members of the public.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest highlighted that the Mobile Library Service is a unique initiative designed to take books beyond conventional library spaces and make them accessible at tourist destinations and in remote areas.
With the objective of strengthening library services across the islands and attracting both tourists and local residents towards reading, the Directorate of Education has proposed the introduction of two additional Mobile Libraries at Swaraj Dweep, and Car Nicobar.
