District Administration South Andaman Organises DLCC Meeting on National De-worming Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 30: The District Level Coordination Committee Meeting was held today under the Chairmanship of Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, to review the preparatory arrangements for the observance of National De-worming Day (NDD) on 8th August 2025. The program will be implemented by the Health Department in coordination with the Education Department and the Department of Social Welfare – ICDS. A Mop-Up Day is scheduled for 16th August 2025 to cover children who miss the initial round.

This initiative is part of the Government of India’s flagship public health program aimed at eliminating intestinal worm infections by administering Albendazole tablets to all eligible children and adolescents aged 1 to 19 years at schools and Anganwadi centres.

The DC (SA) directed the officials of line departments to ensure that health workers, anganwadi workers and school teachers are adequately trained and mobilized for the successful implementation of the programme. During the administration of the de-worming medicine, Medical Officers In-charge of health centres must actively monitor the respective schools and anganwadi centres within their jurisdiction to ensure effective execution and promptly address any adverse events that may arise.

Officials of the Rural Development, APWD and Education department were also instructed to coordinate with PRI members to raise awareness within the community. Additionally, they are to work in close coordination with heads of institutions to ensure the cleaning of water tanks in educational establishments, thereby ensuring the provision of safe and clean water.

The District Administration urges all parents and guardians to ensure the participation of their children in this vital health initiative and contribute towards building a healthier future generation.
