DLSA Organises Legal Awareness Programme at Bhatu Basti

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 13: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organized a Legal Awareness Programme today at Ward No. 19, Bathu Basti, in collaboration with PRAYAS Juvenile Aid Center.

The programme was graced by Shri Niyaz Alam, Ld. Additional District Judge, Port Blair, Shri Jayanta Mukherjee, Ld. Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair, and Shri Anupam Sircar, Ld. Additional Judicial Magistrate First Class, Port Blair.

The dignitaries addressed the gathering and elaborated on the important provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, issues relating to child labour, eradication of child labour, prohibition of child marriage, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. They emphasized the need for collective community efforts to safeguard the rights, dignity, and well-being of children and women.

The awareness camp aimed at sensitizing the local community about legal safeguards and promoting preventive measures against exploitation and abuse. The programme witnessed active participation from local residents, who interacted with the resource persons and clarified their doubts.

The District Legal Services Authority remains committed to strengthening access to justice and promoting legal awareness across the islands.
