EEC of Andaman Law College Organises Awareness Session on SIR and Electoral Process

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 14: The Electoral Literacy Club (EEC) of Andaman Law College organized an awareness session on “Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the Electoral Process” in its auditorium today.  The programme aimed to enhance understanding among student-teachers about the importance of the electoral process and the ongoing ‘Special Intensive Revision’ activities conducted by the Election Commission of India.

While presiding over the session, Principal Dr. P.V.N. Sarma urged the students to be actively involved in making SIR a grand success. It is the duty of eligible citizens to ensure that their names are enrolled in the voter list without fail.

The Nodal Officer, Dr. N. Bala Krishnan, in his address explained the flagship program of ECI, popularly known as SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation). He said this was the third awareness programme held at Andaman Law College apart from JNRM and ANCOL to create voter awareness and about the current SIR activity underway in A&N Islands. It is the duty of the youth who have attained 18plus of age to enroll themselves in the voters list by submitting Form 6, and they should facilitate other members of their family, neighborhood, and vicinity of their locality, he added.

The resource person, Shri. Senthil Kumar, a master trainer, emphasized various aspects relating to SIR and said that the objective of SIR is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll. He finally clarified the doubts of participating students. The toll-free number 1950 that works round the clock can also be used to get any information relating to the enumeration form and mapping.

As many as one hundred students participated in the session and actively engaged in the session, and their doubts were well clarified by the resource person. Director of Physical Education, Dr. Rajiv Mondal also addressed the students. Assistant Prof. of Political Science, Dr. Loganadham proposed the vote of thanks.
