Electoral Awareness Programme Organised at JNRM

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 18: The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of JNRM in association with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands organized an Electoral Awareness Programme today in the Lecture Gallery, JNRM as part of its ongoing initiatives to promote voter awareness and participation among students. This, being the 5th Electoral Awareness programme organised for the College Students in Sri Vijaya Puram, concentrated more on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in which the resource person enlightened the students about the importance of SIR and the enumeration process currently underway. The students were informed that under the SIR, at present, the enumeration process is underway and it will continue up to Dec. 4. They urged the students to disseminate this important SIR date to their friends, colleagues, relatives, neighbours encouraging them to participate in the SIR exercise to enrol themselves in the voter list without fail.

Students were also urged to move around in their neighbourhood and encourage the voters/electors to submit their duly filled forms to the BLO without delay. Timely submission of Enumeration Forms to BLOs by the voters will ensure their name appears in the draft electoral roll to be published on Dec. 9, 2025. If any elector has not received the Enumeration Form, they may contact their BLO or call the Voter Helpline (1950) for assistance.

In his address on the occasion, Dr. N. Balakrishnan, Nodal Officer (SVEEP), highlighted various Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities conducted across the Islands to strengthen electoral literacy. He urged the JNRM students to register themselves as voters so that they can also participate in the democratic process by voting in the elections. The SIR exercise is aimed to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll, he concluded.

Dr. R. P. Palanisamy, Associate Professor, Nodal Officer, ELC, JNRM, also addressed the gathering on the importance of voting and the role of responsible citizens in strengthening democracy.

The resource person, Shri. Raja Ram, State Level Master Trainer, delivered insightful session with special reference to the ongoing SIR activity and enlightened the participants about the eligibility criteria for voters, detailed explanation of the enumeration process and also demonstrated the procedure for filling up the enumeration form and clarified the doubts regarding voter ID correction, inclusion and deletion process.   It was informed to the students that a dedicated Voter Helpline (1950) is also functioning to support electors and to provide details of their respective BLOs. Around, 100 students actively participated in the programme, engaging in discussions and awareness activities.
