Electoral Literacy Club of TGCE Organises Awareness Session on SIR and Electoral Process

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 13: The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Tagore Government College of Education organized an awareness session on “Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the Electoral Process” in its auditorium today. The programme aimed to enhance understanding among student-teachers about the importance of the electoral process and the ongoing ‘Special Intensive Revision’ activities conducted by the Election Commission of India.

Dr. N. Balakrishnan, Nodal Officer (SVEEP) said that Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program, better known as SVEEP, is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. He said that our largest target group is the young electors who have been completed 18 years of age, eligible to become voters. He urged the TGCE trainees to enrol themselves as voters by filling Form- 6 to exercise their franchise to build a strong democracy. Our effort is to ensure that no college students who have attained 18 plus is left out without their enrolment in the voters list, he added.

The resource persons Shri. Raja Ram and Shri. Senthil, State Level Master Trainers enlightened the participants about the eligibility criteria for voters, detailed explanation of the enumeration process and also demonstrated the procedure for filling up the enumeration form and clarified the doubts regarding voter ID correction, inclusion and deletion process. They further informed that under the SIR, at present, the enumeration process is underway and it will continue up to Dec. 4. The Draft Electoral Roll will be published on December 9, 2025. Claims and objections can be submitted from December 9, 2025 to January 8, 2026, followed by the Notice Phase (hearing & verification) from December 9, 2025 to January 31, 2026. The final Electoral Roll will be published on February 7, 2026. They urged the trainees to disseminate this information to their friends, colleagues, relatives, neighbors about this exercise aimed to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.

The session emphasized the value of active voter participation, the right to vote, and the responsibility of citizens in strengthening democratic processes. During the question & answer session, the trainees got their doubts clarified by the resource persons which made the awareness programme a participatory one. The Principal, TGCE, Dr. Manjulata Rao and Ms. Ishrat Yousuf, Nodal Officer (ELC) encouraged students to stay informed and actively engage in democratic practices. Around 240 students actively participated in the programme, engaging in discussions and awareness activities.
