Exhibition-cum-Sale of SHG Products – 2025 Organized by NABARD Concludes

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 20: The SHG Exhibition-cum-Sale Mela, organized by NABARD at the ITF Ground as part of its 44th Foundation Day celebrations, concluded on a high note, marking a significant milestone in community engagement and rural entrepreneurship.

Dr.Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, graced the SHG Mela today. During his visit, he engaged in meaningful interactions with Shri G Santhanam, General Manager /OIC, NABARD and several SHG members, appreciating their efforts and the quality of products showcased. He commended NABARD’s initiatives in promoting self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods across the Islands and encouraged SHGs to continue innovating and expanding their reach. His visit was a source of inspiration and motivation for all participants.

Ms.Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (Agriculture),who inaugurated the event yesterday, praised NABARD’s commitment to inclusive development and the empowerment of rural communities. The mela provided SHGs with a valuable platform to connect with consumers, gain market exposure, and build entrepreneurial confidence.

Shri Vivekanand Singh, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India, during his speech on the inaugural day, highlighted the importance of SHGs and appreciated the efforts of NABARD in this regard in the Islands. Shri Santosh Sahu, Regional Manager, State Bank of India, Sri Vijaya Puram, also participated in the event, further underscoring the collaborative spirit among financial institutions in supporting grassroots development.

Over the course of two days, the mela witnessed overwhelming participation from Self Help Groups (SHGs), artisans, and thousands of visitors from across the Islands. With more than 140 stalls showcasing a diverse range of products—from handicrafts and organic produce to Gl-tagged items and traditional foods—the event became a vibrant marketplace and a celebration of local talent.

Shri G Santhanam, General Manager/OIC, NABARD, expressed his gratitude and stated that the success of SHG Mela 2025 is a testament to the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. It has fostered connections, inspired innovation and strengthened the spirit of self-reliance.

The event also featured cultural performances enriching the experience for visitors and participants alike. The enthusiastic turnout and positive feedback highlighted the growing public support for grassroots enterprises and sustainable development.
