
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 27: PTS, Prothrapur, in a significant step towards modernizing forensic capabilities, a two-days hands-on training programme on the Measurement Collection Unit (MCU)/the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Act 2022 was successfully conducted at the Police Training School, Prothrapur, Sri Vijayapuram on 19th and 20th February 2026. The programme was organized by the Finger Print Cell (CID) under the guidance of senior officers in coordination with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), New Delhi. Its objective was to shift from manual record-keeping to a modern, unified identification system.
The training was conducted by a specialized NCRB team, which provided both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations. The key trainers were Shri Anupam Karmakar, Senior Technical Officer; Ms. Aparna Sengupta, Project Leader; Mr. Raman Prasad, Junior Technical Officer; and Mr. Tejas Dipak Chaudhari, Project Engineer, along with Inspector T. K. William, Finger Print Expert, and HC/172 T. Ravi Kumar, MCU Enroller/Finger Print Expert. A total of 40 participants attended, including police personnel from the rank of Head Constable to Inspector and Scientific Officers from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Sri Vijayapuram.
The Criminal Procedure Identification System represents a major advancement in policing. The MCU enables the collection of 360-degree photographs, iris scans, DNA samples and physical measurements. This system is now operational at the Finger Print Cell, three District Police Offices, and in correctional institutions including the District Jail and Sub-Jails across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
