
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 1: The first phase of Census 2027 begins in Andaman & Nicobar Union Territory. The UT is in the first batch of states/ UTs where the self-enumeration under Houselisting and Housing Census i.e. first phase of Census 2027, has started on 1st April, 2026.
The exercise began in the Archipelago with self-enumeration of Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency. The Census team consisting of Ms Purva Garg, Director of Census Operations and Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Kamaleshwar Rao S, Secretary (SVPMC) and Charge Census Officer (SVPMC), Shri Chandra Mohan Joshi, Joint Director, Directorate of Census Operations called on Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor at Lok Niwas to cover him under the first ever self-enumeration exercise being conducted in the history of Indian censuses. Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor was given detailed information about digital initiatives of census 2027, procedure of self-enumeration and status of census exercise being undertaken in the Archipelago. Ms Jyoti Kumari, Secretary to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor was also present on the occasion.
