Fisheries Department in Collaboration with CIFNET Conducts Training on Maintenance of Boat Engine and Fishing Practices for Fishers of Campbell Bay

Campbell Bay, Nov. 26: The Department of Fisheries, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), concluded a comprehensive 03-day training programme on ‘Maintenance of Boat Engine and Fishing Practice’ for fishermen of Campbell Bay. The programme, organised under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and funded by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), commenced on Nov. 24 to strengthen the technical capacity and fishing skills of local fishermen.

A total of 25 fishermen participated in the training, which included both theoretical sessions and hands-on practical demonstrations. On the final day, today the participants were given extensive inputs on boat engine maintenance, identification of defects, troubleshooting techniques, and exposure to various sustainable and efficient fishing practices. The sessions were led by experienced CIFNET faculty members who ensured that each participant gained practical, field-oriented knowledge essential for safe and productive fishing operations.

During the conclusion session, Miss Glory, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Nicobar highlighted the commitment of the Department towards empowering fishermen through continuous training, modern fishing techniques, and improved livelihood opportunities. Certificates of participation were formally distributed to all 25 fishermen by CIFNET faculty members.
