
Mayabunder, Oct. 9: A Fishermen Watch Group (FWG) meeting of North & Middle Andaman District was conducted yesterday in virtual mode under the chairmanship of Smti. Sindhu Pillai A., IPS, IGP (L&O), and was attended by Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, SP (D) N&MA, Shri. Chandan G.S, SDPO Rangat, Shri. Ankesh Yadav, SDPO Diglipur, Shri. Tapan Kr. Mondal, Assistant Director, Fisheries Department, SHOs of N&MA District, In-Charges of PMF Unit, and Fishermen from across the district.
During the meeting, fishermen presented their grievances regarding various operational and administrative issues affecting their daily work and livelihoods. These included challenges arising from unauthorized fishing activities by trawlers, the need for floating jetties and ice plants, improved coordination with enforcement agencies, and other procedural difficulties. The Chairman attentively heard each concern, acknowledging the hardships faced by the fishing community, and assured the fishermen that all issues related to Police Department would be addressed promptly and effectively, while matters pertaining to Administration would be taken up with the concerned authorities to ensure timely redressal and continued support to the fishermen.
Reaffirming the commitment to community safety, the Chairman also urged all participants to remain vigilant and cooperate with the Police by promptly sharing any information related to criminal activities, drug abuse, or other illegal practices. She reminded everyone to be the eyes and ears of the Police, not only at sea but also on land, and emphasized that timely reporting by the community plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
The general public have been requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to any crime or illegal activities to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. The identity of the informers will be kept secret and will also be suitably rewarded.
