General Body Meeting of Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh Held at Tamizhar Sangam

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 23: The General Body meeting of the Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh, Port Blair was held at Tamizhar Sangam Hall, Port Blair today (22.11.2025) afternoon.  In his presidential address, B. Chandrachoodan, President, Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh dealt with briefly the valiant struggles conducted by the daily rated workers in Andaman & Nicobar during the last three decades because of which thousands of workers are getting the 1/30th of pay plus DA benefits.  He emphasized the need to carry forward the struggle for achieving the demand for   regularization of services of daily rated mazdoors. 

Addressing the workers, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee criticized the Modi government for notifying the four Labour Codes passed during 2019 and 2020 despite strong opposition from the united labour organisations in the country. He said that workers all over the country would stage protest on 26th November, 2025 against the unilateral notification of the Labour Codes. He said that ever since the Modi government came to power in 2014, black laws are passed in Parliament and anti-people and anti-working-class policies are being implemented in the country. 

Earlier, a condolence resolution, paying homage to those Municipal workers who passed away during the last two years and all the leaders and trade union activists who passed away during the period under report, was adopted by the General Body meeting. SP Kalairajan, General Secretary, Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh presented a brief report on the functioning of the Union during the last two years. Ramakrishnan presented the Audited Accounts of the Union.  

A resolution was adopted by the General Body meeting opposing the notification of the four Labour Codes on 21st November, 2025 by the central government.  Tamizhar Sangam Hall was packed with hundreds of Municipal workers from different parts of the town who are all members of the Union.   The General Body meeting also elected a new Committee with B. Chandrachoodan, SP Kalairajan and Ramakrishna as President, General Secretary and Treasurer respectively of the Union. Anand Rajan, Secretary, CITU State Committee proposed vote of thanks.  The meeting decided to make the 10th Andaman & Nicobar State Conference of CITU scheduled to be held on 20 – 21 December, 2025   successful.  P. Sathyapal, Secretary, CITU and R. Rajendran, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association also were present on the occasion.
