
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 11: The A&N Police organized the grand finale of the Beach Volleyball Tournament at the picturesque Corbyn’s Cove Beach today marking the culmination of an exciting sporting event that celebrated fitness, discipline, teamwork, and community bonding. The finale was graced by Smt. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police, A&N Islands, as the chief guest. The event was attended by Shri A Koan, IPS, DIGP; Smti. Niyati Mittal Kashyap, SP (APU); Shri Vikash, IPS, SP (HQ); Shri Rajnikant Awadhiya, DySP (APU), along with other Police officials, sports enthusiasts, and a large number of local residents, adding to the vibrancy of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Smt. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, appreciated the efforts of all participating teams and commended the police personnel for actively motivating the youth through sports. She emphasized that such initiatives not only promote physical fitness and mental well-being but also help channel youthful energy in a positive direction, thereby strengthening trust and camaraderie between the Police and the public.
A total of 16 teams participated in the knockout-format tournament. In the final match, the Police team emerged victorious by defeating the Seva Bharat team, lifting the Champion’s Trophy, while the Seva Bharat Team secured the Runner-up position. Medals were awarded to both teams in recognition of their commendable performance and sportsmanship.
The tournament, launched on 7th January, 2025, was conducted for the first time as a major community outreach initiative of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. The initiative aimed to promote sports culture, youth engagement, and positive police–public interaction. The tournament was open to all with no entry fee, ensuring inclusive participation and widespread community involvement. The tournament concluded in an atmosphere marked by enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and fair play, reflecting the success of this community-oriented initiative. The Andaman & Nicobar Police reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sports, health, youth engagement, and community bonding, while further strengthening positive police–public relations across the islands.
