
Hut Bay, Jan 8: Harminder Bay Village, Little Andaman, witnessed an engaging community chess programme this evening as chess made its way into the Nicobari settlement through street chess event organized by the Directorate of Education with the support of local tribal community. This initiative transformed the village surroundings into a space of thoughtful engagement, where strategy and tradition met in a spirit of togetherness.
Members of the Nicobari community, ranging from young learners to senior elders, gathered around the chessboards, actively participating and encouraging one another. The symbolic opening move of the programme was made by Shri. Andrew Moses, First Captain, Tribal Council, Harminder Bay, who shared the board with Shri Festus Nathaniel, Secretary, Tribal Council, marking the beginning of an evening filled with lively interaction and strategic play in the presence of Smti. Grace Perl, Teacher-in-charge, GSS Harminder Bay.
The event was warmly embraced by the local residents, reflecting how chess can seamlessly integrate into tribal community life while encouraging intellectual growth and social harmony.
