Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20: On 19th November 2025, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO) at Port Blair Shri. Neyaz Alam, convicted one accused person namely Sheikh Mehboob alias Gathi, resident of South Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, in a sexual assault case committed by him against a minor girl then aged 10 years. It is averred that the accused was neighbour of victim and he had committed sexual assault upon the minor child while she was sleeping.
The victim informed the incident to her parents, thereafter the matter was informed to concern PS i.e. PS Aberdeen who registered a case being FIR No. 94 of 2023 dated 30.05.2023 against the accused person under Section 7/8/9(m)/10/11(i)/11(iv)/12 of POCSO Act and the investigation was taken by SI N.Nandini under the supervision of the then SHO Girish Kumar.
The prosecution examined 8 witnesses and the Hon’ble Court after conducting trial found the accused person guilty of the offence. Accordingly, the accused has been sentenced to suffer 05 (Five) years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 7/8 of POCSO Act and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000/- in default of payment of such fine the accused had to undergo further rigorous imprisonment of 02 (Two) months. The court further sentenced the accused to suffer 05 (Five) years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 9(m)/10 of POCSO Act and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000/- in default of such payment to suffer further rigorous imprisonment of 01 (One) month.
The court further sentenced the accused to suffer 05 (Five) years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 11(i)(iv)/12 of POCSO Act and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000/- in default of such payment to suffer further rigorous imprisonment of 01 (One) month. The court further sentenced the accused to suffer 05 (Five) years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 451 of IPC and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000/- in default of such payment to suffer further rigorous imprisonment of 01 (One) month. In addition to the prison term, the judge imposed fine on the convict. Acknowledging the need for Victim’s rehabilitation, the Hon’ble Court directed that compensation of Rs. 2,00,000/- be provided to the survivor for her welfare, care and future support.
The judgment underlined the seriousness with which the courts are treating offence against children and stated that strong punishment must serve both as justice for the victim and as a deterrent to the society.
