
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 19: The ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nicobar and KVK, South Andaman, organized a day-long meeting-cum-visit for Shri T. Lionald Nicomed, Chairman, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, and Shri John Levi, Deputy Vice Chairman, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar.
The dignitaries visited KVK, South Andaman and various research farms of the institute followed by interaction meeting with the scientists. The Chairman and Deputy Chairman, expressed gratitude to the institute for the interaction meeting and shown keen interest in adopting technologies suitable for the Nicobar group of islands.
Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI, appreciated the efforts of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman for accepting the institute’s invitation and sharing their vision for the future of agriculture and allied sectors in Car Nicobar. During an interactive session with scientists, key issues were discussed, including strategies to enhance agricultural productivity in the Nicobar Islands, promotion of entrepreneurship among youth, scope of food processing to curb migration, and addressing current challenges faced by farmers.
The Director urged the Tribal Council leaders to identify pressing problems and specific requirements in agriculture and allied sectors in consultation with village councils, assuring full technical support from ICAR-CIARI.
Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK, South Andaman, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Santosh Kumar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Nicobar, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was organized under the overall guidance and supervision of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
