
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 27: The Institution of Engineers (India), Andaman Nicobar State Centre celebrated the “National Science Day” in a befitting manner in the conference hall of The Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works, Mohanpura, Er. Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South Andaman was the Chief Guest and Er. Mamta Jijith, Deputy Chief Engineer-Nicobar, Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works was the Guest of Honor. The theme of National Science Day 2026 was “Women in Science: Catalysing Vikasit Bharat”.
The programme started with lighting the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. The welcome address was given by the Chairperson and Council Member Er. Usha Stephen, FIE followed by address of the Guest of Honor Er. Mamta Jijith.
In the inaugural session the Chief Guest Er. Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner South Andaman addressed the gathering as Keynote Speaker and lauded the participation of women in the Islands for Science and Engineering.
The inaugural session was concluded with the felicitation of the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor by the Chairperson and Council Member Er.Usha Stephen, FIE followed by High Tea.
Two Eminent Speakers Er. Diana Joslin, HoD Department of Civil Engineering and Dean (Student Affairs) DBRAIT and Er. A. Bhuvaneshwari, Assistant Executive Engineer, Directorate of Light House and Light Ships inspired the student and audience through their very interactive Presentation and Lecture on the theme. The programme concluded with the felicitation of the Speakers followed by the vote of thanks by the Honorary Secretary IEI ANSC Er. Debdas Paik, MIE.
Students from JNRM and DBRAIT, Engineers from ALHW, APWD, DLHLS, PBMC and Other Central Government and State Government Agencies along with Members of IEI were participated in the Programme.
