Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 23: IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair organised a programme for the observance of Sexual Harassment Prevention week on 22nd December 2025 Monday at 11 am at the Regional Сentre conference hall. The resource person for the programme was Ms. Akshaya R. S., Assistant Professor, Andaman Law College, Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The title for the proposed programme was “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013”.
The programme begun with the welcome of the guest with bouquet by Ms. Karani Mandal and by the welcome speech of Regional Director-Port Blair Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob. He highlighted the importance of the awareness regarding sexual harassment and a safe environment for the women at workplace.
In her keynote speech, Ms. Akshaya R. S. explained about the act, its purpose and various aspects related to it. She explained about Internal Complaint Committee, its constitution and emphasised on the need of this in every organization. The function of ICC is crucial to determine the inquiry report recommending quantum of punishment and compensation and also highlighted how employer can maintain the annual record about complaints and sensitive staffs regarding penalty for non-compliance with provisions of Act.
