
Diglipur, Nov. 2: In a major step toward promoting inclusiveness and equal opportunities for children with special needs (CWSN), the Samagra Shiksha UT Mission organized the first-ever Inclusive Athletic Meet for CWSN in Diglipur on Friday at PM SHRI GSSS Subhash Gram.
The event began with an impressive march past and cultural performances by the special children, supported by students of Subhash Gram school. The captivating display delighted the chief guest, Shri Biswanath Sen, Tahsildar, and the guest of honour, Shri Prakash Howlader, DEO Mayabunder.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Block Project Officer Smti. Sulochana said this was the first inclusive athletic meet for special children in the vast Diglipur zone under Samagra Shiksha. She stated that around 88 CWSN are currently enrolled across 29 schools in the region, where they are taught with the support of Special Educators. A full-fledged Resource Centre is also functional at GSSS Diglipur to strengthen facilities for the children, she added.
The participants enthusiastically competed in various track and field events tailored to their interests and abilities. Activities were conducted in categories such as Tiny Tots, Little Champs, Blooming Stars, Young Achievers, and Rising Stars. Special events were also organized for wheelchair-bound students. All competitions were held with proper care and safety protocols, while parents and guardians cheered on joyfully from the stands.
At the valedictory ceremony, chief guest Shri P.R. Singaram, Pradhan of Subhash Gram, felicitated all participants and winners. He praised the initiative of the Block Project Office, Samagra Shiksha, noting that such events not only provide a platform for special children to showcase their talents but also help spread a positive message of inclusivity in society.
The Principal of GSSS Diglipur, Dr. Pushpavalli, and the Principal of PM SHRI GSSS Subhash Gram, Smti. Kakoli Dey were also present on the occasion. Local Sports lovers in significant numbers turned up to witness the performance of these special children.
