Port Blair, May 29: The Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration organized a short term Skill Development Training Program on ‘Handicrafts (Coconut Shell and Wood) products’ for ‘Onge Community’ at Dugong Creek in Little Andaman from May 22 to 28, 2023. Altogether, 20 villagers participated in the training program and were imparted basic skills and knowledge for making handicrafts, thus creating self-employment opportunities and avenues for their livelihood.

Port Blair, May 29: As part of the World Environment Day Celebration - Mass Mobilization of Mission LiFE (Life Style for Environment) an awareness campaign was organized by the Port Blair North Division of Andaman PWD at CAT Complex, Port Blair today. The event was launched by planting of saplings by Ms. Nandini Paliwal, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (PWD) and Shri Arjun Sharma,IAS, Secretary (PWD) in the presence of CE & SE APWD, other staff & workers of the Department.

New Delhi, May 27: Fisheries sector provides livelihood, employment, and entrepreneurship to more than 2.8 crore fishers and fish farmers at the primary level and several lakhs along the value chain. This sector has gradually evolved over the years to become an important pillar of socio-economic growth of the nation. Over the past 75 years the sector has transformed with a 22- fold increase in fish production. From a mere 7.5 lakh tons in 1950-51, India’s total fish production has reached a record 162.48 lakh tons per annum in 2021-22, with a 10.34% growth in fish production in 2021- 22 in comparison to 2020-21. Today, India is the 3rd largest fish producing country with about 8% share in global fish production. India stands 2nd in aquaculture production and one of the top cultured shrimps producing nation in the world.

Port Blair, May 29: Under the provisions of Rule 4.3(a) 7(a) to (c) of the Excise Policy & 9 (iii) of the bar guidelines issued by the Administration vide Office Order No.4192 dated 18/11/2008 respectively, the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman District has ordered that 11/06/2023 (Sunday) Polling Day and 13/06/2023 (Tuesday) Counting Day will be observed as ‘Dry Day’ in connection with the Bye Election against the casual vacancy of Gram Panchayat Member Constituency  Swadeshnagar – 1, Panchayat Samiti Member, Mayabunder under Mayabunder Tehsil and Gram Panchayat Member Constituency Rangat – 8 under Rangat Tehsil.

Port Blair, May 28: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma organized a special event this morning titled 'Yagna and Sarva Dharma Prayer' at 7 AM in Tiranga Park. The objective of this event was to unite the community in prayer, seeking divine intervention for much-needed rainfall in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. A large number of senior citizens and islanders attended the program, contributing to its success.
