Port Blair, March 10:  International Women’s Day was befittingly celebrated by ‘Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi’ (PBGKR) in association with Cute Cottons Boutique on March 8, 2024. The grand celebration was organised at Bageecha, Port Blair in which Ms. Mumtaz Bano, Retired Announcer All India Radio and Mrs. Zubaida Begum, Ex-Chairperson Port Blair Municipal Council graced as the special guests.

The celebration was marked with artists from different walks of life presenting mesmerizing song numbers to make the occasion lively. More than 50 women including petty business owners, entrepreneurs, government servants and housewives were presented certificate of appreciation for their service to the society and their families. Among them were three exceptional ladies viz. Ms. Nidhi Bisht, Mrs. Delocin Banerjee and Ms. Pooja Biswas who were felicitated with an award and a certificate by PBGKR.

Port Blair, Mar. 8: The GB Pant Hospital has established State of Art ‘Endoscopy Suite for performing upper and lower gastro intestinal (G.I) Endoscopies’ in the Hospital. The Suite is equipped with latest advancements in endoscopic imaging with narrow band imaging ensuring high resolution for accurate and early diagnosis of different diseases related to stomach and intestines. The procedures include endoscopy and colonoscopy designed to facilitate painless, non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Mayabunder, Mar. 10: In view of the ensuing General Election to Lok Sabha -2024, as part of SVEEP activity of General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024, a Marathon on the theme ‘Votathon’ was organized today from Webi School Junction to Netaji Sports Complex, Mayabunder.

The Votathon was flagged off by Shri C.S. Pillai, Tehsildar/AERO, Mayabunder. The official/staff of DC’s office, staff and students from MGG College, Mayabunder and various schools under Mayabunder Tehsil, youth and general public from GP Mayabunder, GP Pokkadera, GP Rampur and GP Pahalgaon participated in the Votathon. 

Port Blair, Mar. 10: A solemn function was organised today at the ‘Chatham Memorial’ to commemorate the anniversary of the arrival of first batch of freedom fighters at Port Blair.  The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, led the Islanders in paying rich tributes to the heroes of First War of Independence. The Chief Secretary laid wreath at the Memorial as a mark of respect to the Freedom Fighters. Floral tributes were also offered by the senior Officers of the A&N Administration, members of Local Born Association besides old inhabitants of these Islands and others at the Memorial. 

Port Blair, Mar. 9: The election awareness stickers pasted in the LPG Refill cylinder so that people encourage others for voting. The Election theme 2024 ‘Chunav Ka Parv Desh Ka Garv’ are pasted in LPG Refill Cylinders so that it reaches every home and shop. The SVEEP team of Office of the Returning Officer has geared up to participate in the country’s civic process.
