Port Blair, Feb 22: CPI (M) has demanded to provide uninterrupted power supply to Port Blair and rural South Andaman areas for the benefit of thousands of students appearing in the Examinations. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee brought to the notice of the Administration the increasing disruption in the power supply at Port Blair and rural South Andaman areas during the last few weeks. CPI (M) Secretary informed the Chief Secretary that power supply has been disrupted frequently during the day time and night.

Port Blari, Feb 22: A mock drill on fire incident was conducted at Sea Shell Resort, Marine Hill, today by the Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with A&N Police, A&N Police Fire Services, Directorate of Health Services and NDRF by creating real time fire simulation scenarios and tested the preparedness level of the resort and response of all Emergency Support Functionaries (ESFs) on safe evacuation, search & rescue and fire extinguish operations, first aid alongwith medical support to manage the fire incident scenario in the resort.

Port Blair, Feb 22: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organised a Two-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for Teachers and Counsellors from 21st & 22nd February 2023. The valedictory function for the seminar was held on 22nd February 2023 in seminar room, JNRM. Shri. Rajinder Singh, Deputy Commandant / CASO, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), VSI Airport, Port Blair graced the occasion as Chief Guest.  

Port Blair, Feb 22: Spices have been playing a crucial role in the economy of our Islands and a variety of spices are being cultivated in different parts of the Islands. However, due to lack of awareness on scientific techniques of postharvest management, most of the stakeholders have been unable to reap maximum benefits from the cultivation of spices. In order to provide the requisite technical knowhow, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair conducting a training programme on “Scientific Harvesting and Postharvest Management of Spices in Andaman Islands” on March 03, 2023.

Port Blair, Feb 22: A periodic field survey was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair to identify pest and disease associated with Arecanut and Coconut at Harminder Bay, Rabindranath Nagar, Ramakrishnapur, Vivekanandapur along with Smt. Jacinta Baig, Agri Officer, Alfred Abraham, AA, Joshua Paul, AFA, Tapan Biswas, AFA from the Directorate of Agriculture, Little Andaman.
