Port Blair, Mar. 10: A solemn function was organised today at the Chatham Memorial to commemorate the 164th anniversary of the arrival of first batch of 200 freedom fighters at Port Blair.  The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Jitendra Narain led the Islanders in paying rich tributes to the heroes of First War of Independence. The Chief Secretary laid wreath at the Memorial as a mark of respect to the Freedom Fighters. Floral tributes were also offered by the senior Officers of the A&N Administration, members of Local Born Association besides old inhabitants of these Islands and others at the Memorial.

Port Blair, March 11: Port Blair Municipal Council has launched the Blue Pipe Project for urban rainwater harvesting. It is a novel community based Rainwater Harvesting initiative which utilizes existing building roofs and existing ring wells to recharge ground water. It is to mention that Port Blair witnesses over 2200 mm of rainfall every year but it is also plagued by acute water shortages due to paucity of high quality fresh water sources in the area.

Port Blair, March 11: A two days HRD Programme on Vegetable Crops i.e Tomato, Green Chilies, Bottle gourd was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair on 10th & 11th March, 2022 at Sitapur, Shahid Dweep. The focus of the programme was on management of major Insect Pests in vegetable crops through IPM practices- Cultural, Mechanical, Biological methods including various Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITKs) of the region.

Port Blair, March 11: A delegation of unemployed Pharmacist met Shri. Abhay Kumar, National President, Indian Pharmacist Association (IPA) at Port Blair today and raised several points for consideration. The points included:

1) Offline conducting of exams and early completion of the recruitment process of Pharmacist under DHS which was initiated in 2018.

Port Blair, March 11: Continuing zero tolerance against the illegal trade of narcotic drugs/substances in South Andaman District, the team of Police Station Hut Bay seized 06 Nos. cannabis plant weighing 235 grams and arrested one accused.
