Port Blair, Feb 16: For enhanced participation of electors in the electoral process and reducing the electoral malpractices and to improve the quality of electoral registration process and of the electoral rolls, the Election Commission of India from August 2006 has decided to introduce the concept of appointing Booth Level Officers who would be accountable for ensuring the fidelity of electoral roll.

BLOs are appointed from amongst the Officers of the Govt. /Semi Govt. /Local Bodies. Generally, one BLO is responsible for one part of the electoral roll. He is generally a voter in the same polling area or nearest area who assists in updating the roll using his local knowledge.

Port Blair, Feb 16: The State Child Protection Society (SCPS) under the Directorate of Social Welfare has invited children below 18 years to participate in a drawing competition for Swachhata Abhiyan. The drawing mentioning the child’s name, age, and class should be submitted at the State Child Protection Society (SCPS), Directorate of Social Welfare, Goalghar, Room Number 308 latest by 26th February, 2024.   

Port Blair, Feb 16: The National De-worming Day 2024 (first round) was held in A&N Islands on Feb.9, 2024.The Mop up round will be held on Feb.17, 2024. During this round, Albendazole Tablet will be administered to students at Schools and Anganwadi Centres. All parents have been requested to ensure that their children are administered Tab Albendazole in Schools and Anganwadi Centres.

Port Blair, Feb 16: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be holding National Lok Adalat in the District Court Complex at Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Circuit Court at Diglipur on 09-03.2024. Besides the compoundable nature of cases pending in different courts, disputes at the pre-litigation stage will also be entertained by the National Lok Adalat for disposal upon consensual settlement between the parties. Pre-litigation disputes include NI Act cases u/s 138, money recovery cases, labour dispute cases, electricity and water bills cases (excluding non-compoundable), maintenance cases civil disputes and disputes under the Consumer Protection Act.

Port Blair, Feb 16: The vehicle owners and candidates intending to avail the services of vehicle fitness and driving tests have been informed that the fitness tests scheduled on 19/02/2024, 20/02/2024 & 21/02/2024 and the driving tests scheduled on 17/02/2024, 19/02/2024 & 21/02/2024 have been suspended due to administrative reason in connection with the upcoming VVIP Visit.
