Port Blair, July 21: In an effort to combat the growing threat of Bank/Soil erosion in various regions of North & Middle Andaman as well as South Andaman, the Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, has requested thorough survey and alternative land for affected farmers.

In his letter to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that during his visits to remote areas of North and Middle Andaman, as well as South Andaman, he has personally witnessed the alarming consequences of Bank/Soil erosion in numerous villages. The erosion, caused primarily by the flow of rivers and various nallahs, has posed a severe threat to the livelihoods of farmers who depend on the allotted land.

Port Blair, July 21: In compliance to the Government’s Millet Mission Policy to mainstream millets and to improve the nutritional diversity of the children by way of inclusion of millets- based recipes in the diet plan of Anganwadi Centres, before the full scale implementation in the Union Territory level for millet inclusion in the ICDS- SNP system, the Department of Social Welfare has proposed for one pilot programme, to be done for consensus building, feedback on feasibility and preference by the children before finalization of menus for AWCs. In addition, the menu suggested also pays special attention to the existing traditional food recipes and preferences pertaining to the different cultures. The need for such programme stems from the status of malnutrition among children in the Union Territory.

Port Blair, July 21: It was all smiles and laughter around when 18 residents of Old Age Homes got an opportunity to spend some time out in the open, exploring the beach and concluding the trip with lunch in a garden amidst a wide range of plants.

When Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi (PBGKR) was requested to arrange for an outing for the seniors by the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, the team PBGKR readily accepting the request, arranged for transporting the seniors from Ferrargunj to Corbyn’s Cove Beach. It had been a long time when the not so privileged seniors had an outing. The seniors enjoyed the waves as it caressed their feet pressed into the wet sand. A refreshing experience it was to see them smile again.

Port Blair, July 21: Due to fire accident on 12.07.2023, the semi RCC house belonging to Shri Sheo Ram, S/o Late Siri Ram, R/o School Line & others have been affected. To provide relief, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has sanctioned an amount of Rs.1,10,300/- as ex-gratia relief which has been disbursed to the victims Shri Sudesh Ram & 4 others upon submission of NOC by all other victims. The amount has been sanctioned in terms of SDRF norms.
