Selvam R/o Prem Nagar, who left for heavenly abode on today 24.06.2023 at 02.30 PM. Shri Jolly prayed to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul and to give strength to his bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Port Blair, June 23: Highlighting the pressing matter of stranded individuals in Chennai who are eagerly awaiting a ship sailing to Port Blair, the Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to arrange a sailing of ship from Chennai to Port Blair.

Port Blair, June 23: CPI (M) has demanded to create a separate Lok Sabha seat for Nicobar District, to be reserved for the Nicobari tribals. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A&N State Organising Committee, who is currently on a visit to Delhi, today (23.06.2023) submitted a Memorandum to the Home Secretary in which it was submitted that the Nicobars District is the most backward District in the country in terms of overall development, communication facility, education, health, etc. Since independence, several Prime Ministers and other dignitaries visited the Nicobars District and promised its development but such assurances remain as a promise and no developmental work worth the name has taken place for the Nicobar group of islands.

Port Blair, June 23: Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, has taken over the charge of Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands today. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented at Police Headquarters to welcome the DGP. Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, an officer of 1995 batch of Indian Police Service, has over 27 years of wide experience in the field of policing and served in various capacities in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Delhi and Mizoram. He has also served on central deputation in Intelligence Bureau (IB) and thereafter in ONGC as Executive Director (Security). After serving as DGP, Mizoram for 16 months, he has been posted as DGP, A & N Islands.

Kamorta, June 23: A major fire took place at Trinket Island in the Nancowy Group of Central Nicobars today. The fire spread across the island and took hours to control. However there are no casualties reported.

At present there are four families residing in the Trinket Island. The remaining had shifted from the island after the Tsunami of 2004.
