CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee expresses deep grief at the passing away of Comrade Lawrence Fernandez, former President of the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, at a hospital at Kochi, Kerala on 28th July, 2023. He was 74 years. 

Com.Fernandez, a retired Headmaster of Education Department, Andaman & Nicobar Islands was a committed leader and was in the forefront of various movements of government employees.  He had to face the wrath of the ruling parties and the Education Department for organizing government employees and conducting agitations wherever he was posted while in service.

Port Blair, July 30: Thunderstorms, lightning & gusty wind (speed 30-40 kmph) is likely occur at one or two places over A&N Islands on July 31, Aug.1, 2 & 3.  Due to strong monsoon current, wind speed exceeding 45 kmph is likely to prevail over Andaman Sea and neighborhood. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till Aug. 3.

Member of Parliament Demands for Procurement of New Operational Headring Machine for Chatham Saw Mill

Port Blair, July 28: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to procure a new Operational Headring Machine for Chatham Saw Mill.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that presently, out of the two Headring Machines for slicing logs, the 54" Vertical Saw Band machine installed in 1974, has been dismantled due to ageing and malfunctioning.
