Port Blair, Dec. 2: Division of Animal Science, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair conducted series of workshop for five days on Improvement and Conservation of Native Poultry at tribal farming community Chingen Village, Campbell Bay and Kinmai, Tapoiming, Malacca and Perka villages, Car Nicobar from 24-28, November 2022 under Scheduled Tribal Component in collaboration with DBT-Biotech Kisan Hub. Shri. Hilton, 1st Captain, Chingen Village, Campbell Bay and 1st Captains viz., Shri. Ireneous Benjamin, (Kinmai), Shri. Kishore, (Tapoiming), Shri. Micah (Malacca) and Shri. Paul David (Perka) Tribal Farming Community, Car Nicobar along with 167 tribal farmers including 90 women tribal farmers participated in the programme.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: In line with the continuous efforts of DSS for providing safe ship and safety of passengers, DSS conducted a Safety Mock drill on board MV Juhi today.  A large number of local passengers availing the ferry services participated in the drill.  A scenario of man overboard was created. Subsequent to above created situation, emergency alarm was raised by the vessel and all immediate precautionary measures were taken by the vessel for the safety of fellow passengers. Proper look out were posted to locate the drifting person and same was also informed to Afloat Communication Centre for shore assistance.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: The CPI (M) has demanded immediate posting of sufficient number of medical officers including Specialist doctors and Nursing Staff to Dr Rajendra Prasad District Hospital, Mayabunder. In a letter sent to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), A & N Administration, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee while referring to his recent visit to the said hospital during a tour to North Andaman, said that there is acute shortage of medical officers and Specialist doctors in the District Hospital.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: Adding yet another feather in her cap, R Kashthuri Bhai, a class VIII student of GDMS Port Blair, becomes the first A & N Islands’ chess player to have opened international Rating both in Standard and Rapid Formats of Chess game as per the latest International Ratings published by the World Chess Federation on 30th November 2022. She recently participated in back to back Rapid Tournaments at Bengaluru & Hyderabad and following excellent performance, she managed to open International Rapid Rating. As per the latest ratings published on 30th Nov 2022, her Standard Format Rating is 1513 and Rapid Rating is 1563.

Port Blair, Dec. 2: In fight against bootlegging, illicit liquor and drug abuse, Andaman & Nicobar Police has adopted multi-pronged strategy coupled with zero tolerance against this menace. On supply front, Police is cracking the whips against bootleggers and drug peddlers. On demand side, mass public awareness campaign is launched to spread awareness about ill-effects of alcohol/drug abuse.
