Port Blair, Feb 8: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to activate all the self-help groups present in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands for Disaster Management Work.

Inviting attention of Lt. Governor towards the pressing matter of disaster preparedness and its significance in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that recently struck Turkey and Syria, resulting in the loss of over 11,000 lives, the Member of Parliament mentioned in a letter that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are situated in zone V in the Seismic map and are also prone to several natural disasters including cyclones, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

Port Blair, Feb. 8: General public as well as stakeholders have been informed that A&N Administration will be conducting a State Level Mock Disaster Management Exercise (TATPAR-23) in A & N Island tomorrow (Feb.9), 2023 in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority, INCOIS Hyderabad and National Disaster Response Force to assess the level of preparedness and response mechanism of the stakeholders, Nodal Officers of line Departments/Agencies, Task Forces, QRTs and other Organisations etc.

Port Blair, Feb 8: Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee along with other leaders of the party has met the fire victims at Junglighat on 7th February, 2023.  A devastating fire on 1st February, 2023 night at Junglighat completely gutted five shops and a residential house while damaging a few other adjacent shops.  Each shopkeeper sustained the loss of several lakhs in the fire incident while the residential building was completely gutted, rendering the residents shelter-less.

Port Blair, Feb. 8: Shri A.S.P.S. Ravi Prakash, IAS, Secretary (Disaster Management) and Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Disaster Management), A&N Administration along with Officers of Disaster Management Department visited various Mock Incident Sites of State Level Mock DM Exercise in Port Blair and took stock of ground level disaster preparedness for smooth conduct of State Level Mock Exercise to be held tomorrow (Feb.9).

Port Blair, Feb. 9: The Government of India is committed towards Anaemia Mukt Bharat and a worm-free future for the children of India. Worm infestation impair the nutritional status of the children. The nutritional impairment has significant impact on growth and physical development. Worms consume nutrients meant for the human body and cause blood loss, poor nutrition and stunted growth. Due to heavy infection, children are often too sick or tired to concentrate at school or attend School/ Anganwadi. Worm infestation negatively affect children’s physical and cognitive development which could have long term negative impact on them. Studies show that absenteeism in schools decreases with regular deworming.
