Port Blair, March 22: For her dedicated and undeterred services rendered during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, a Nursing Officer in the Directorate of Health Services presently posted at PHC Wimberlygunj was nominated for the Lt. Governor’s commendation certificate. The Nursing Officer was also felicitated for her dedication by none other than the lone Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma at a function organised to recognise the contributions of corona warriors.

Governor, A&N Islands declared A&N Islands as 100% Functional Household Tap Connection in a befitting function held in the Raj Niwas during celebration of World Water Day 2021 organised by Andaman PWD. The Islands become 3rd position in achieving 100% water coverage by fulfilling the slogan of the Govt. of India – Har Ghar Jal – Har Ghar Nal. The Hon’ble LG released a book on the use & conservation of water for school children.

The Hon’ble LG further distributed prizes to all the winners of poster, video and poetry competition conducted by ANSWSM under Jal Jeevan Mission.

Port Blair, March 22: A major Naval project of ‘Extension of Jetty’ at the Naval Wharf was inaugurated by Vice Admiral SR Sarma, Chief of Materiel of Indian Navy, on 22 March 2021. Rear Admiral Suraj Berry, Chief of Staff, HQ Andaman and Nicobar Command and Shri TN Krishnamoorthy, Chief Engineer, Andaman & Lakshadweep Harbour Works were present for the event.

Port Blair, March 22: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has raised the matter of Setting up a Central University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the Parliament session today. The MP mentioned, “The absence of a full-fledged University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is depriving the students of our Islands since they have limited opportunities and have to travel to mainland for higher education purposes, which is a costly affair. In order to realize the true potential of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, there is a requirement to establish a Central University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.”

Port Blair, March 22: The Central Crime Station in its continuous crackdown against illegal Narcotics trade in A&N Islands arrested an air passenger who brought 1.4 Kg of Ganja from Kolkata by Air India flight.

On 17/03/2021, acting on a specific information from reliable source that one person Mohd. Shakir R/o Mithakhari will be arriving from Kolkata to Port Blair by Air India carrying 'contraband ganja' concealed in his bag. A raiding team comprising of SI Bisavjeet Prasad, HC Sanjay Kujur, PCs P.K. Mondal, K. Rajendran and Mohd. Imran deputed at VSI Airport and trap was laid at parking area near VSI Airport Exit gate. The team intercepted Mohd. Shakir and recovered 1.4 Kg of illicit ganja from his possession.
