Port Blair, May 4: Shri Nikhil Kumar, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Statistics) released the publication of ‘Basic Statistics Handbook 2021-22’ of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in his chamber today in the presence of Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Statistics), Shri Gaurang Mishra, Director (Stat & Eco.) and Shri  D. S. Clement Stephen, Statistical Officer (HQ) along with the Statistical team.

Port Blair, May 4: The District Magistrate, South Andaman District has notified for the information of all concerned that the road from Murugan Temple Junction to Observatory Junction & IT Junction to Shadipur Junction will be closed for all vehicular movements from May 5 to 12, 2023. Hence all the vehicles will be diverted through Shadipur during the said period.

Car Nicobar, May 3: The District Administration, Nicobar is conducting a 5 week long village level SHG awareness camps with a vision to financially and socially empower woman by organizing them in SHGs and enhancing their income by engaging them in various commercial activities. This will in turn provide better quality of life to households.

The SHG awareness campaign which started from April 24 will spread over five weeks covering three villages each week. In first week, awareness camps were conducted at Sawai, Arong and Tee-Top villages. People were informed about Government support of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 1.5 lakhs at different stages of SHGs formation and functioning. Each village saw enthusiastic participation from locals and every community hall was packed with locals numbering from 150-200 in every programme.

Port Blair, May 3: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to install a massive desalination plant in the South Andaman region to alleviate water crisis.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that a severe water crisis is currently affecting many parts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and he has been receiving numerous complaints from the citizens of South Andaman, Middle Andaman, North Andaman, Nicobar District, and Port Blair city regarding the acute shortage of water.

Port Blair, May 3: On 14/04/2023, a burglary case vide FIR No. 100/2023 U/s 454/380 IPC was registered at PS Aberdeen against un-known person on the complaint of Shri Baljeet Singh S/o Shri Dadar Singh R/o Dalthaman Colony Near Gandhi Park for theft of cash amounting Rs. 02 lakhs from his house. Working professionally, on 15/04/2023 accused persons namely Rajiv Biswas S/o Shri Robin Biswas (22) yrs R/o Dollygunj and Depak Das S/o Late Badal Das (32) yrs R/o Haddo near Forest Club were arrested and cash Rs, 1,38,500/-  were recovered.
