
Wandoor, June 5: To commemorate World Environment Day, India Tourism, Sri Vijaya Puram (Ministry of Tourism, Government of India) in collaboration with the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) organised an educational tour for students of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) to Red Skin Island, a part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park renowned for its rich marine biodiversity.
The students were taken to the island by boat, with strict adherence to eco-tourism norms—no plastic materials were allowed during the trip. Upon arrival, they were taken to the Marine Interpretation Centre, where forest officials briefed them on the ecological significance of the island and the importance of conserving marine ecosystems.
Shri N. Velmurugan, Assistant Director, India Tourism, addressed the students and highlighted the importance of protecting the natural environment and promoting sustainable tourism practices among youth.
Shri M. Vinod, President, AATO, expressed sincere thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for their continued support and for enabling such valuable educational initiatives. He also appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders who ensured the smooth conduct of the program.
As part of the event, Breakfast, Refreshments and lunch was provided to all participating students, and the tour concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment to eco-friendly tourism and conservation awareness.
