
Mayabunder, Nov. 3: The District Administration, North and Middle Andaman, in coordination with the line Departments, will be conducting an Inter-State Joint Mock Exercise on Tsunami and Cyclone Disasters on Nov. 4 from 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs in compliance with the direction received from the Directorate of Disaster Management.
The exercise aims to enhance the level of preparedness, inter-agency coordination, and response capabilities of various stakeholders in effectively managing large-scale natural disasters such as tsunamis and cyclones. It will also evaluate the readiness of the district administration, emergency services, and local institutions in mitigating the impact of such calamities.
The mock drill will be conducted at Pokhadera Jetty, Karmatang Village, Aerial Bay Jetty, LCT Jetty Durgapur, Nimbulata, and Nilambur.
Residents in nearby areas have been advised not to panic upon hearing sirens, witnessing rescue demonstrations, or observing emergency vehicle movement during the course of the exercise. These activities are part of a routine preparedness measure designed to strengthen disaster response mechanisms and ensure prompt coordination among all response agencies in the event of a real emergency.
