Sri Vijaya Puram, March 6: To mark the occasion of the 55th National Safety Week, the Department of Labour, A&N Administration organized an awareness programme on the theme ‘Safety and Well-Being Crucial for Viksit Bharat’ at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Dollygunj today. Shri Ajit Anand, Deputy Director, Industries Department, presided over the programme as the chief guest.
The year 2026 holds special significance as the National Safety Council (NSC) celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of dedicated service to the nation in promoting workplace safety, occupational health, and environmental protection. In recognition of this milestone and to strengthen safety awareness, the observance of National Safety Day/National Safety Week has been extended for the entire month, to be celebrated as National Safety Day (NSD) / National Safety Month (NSM) commencing from 4th March, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ajit Anand emphasized the importance of adhering to prescribed safety measures to prevent accidents at workplaces. The campaign serves as an important platform to raise awareness about industrial safety and to promote a culture of health, safety, and well-being at workplaces across the country, he said.
On the occasion, a brief presentation was delivered by the Assistant Labour Commissioner (H.Q.)/Inspector of Factories, Department of Labour, highlighting various safety practices and preventive measures to be adopted at workplaces. A total of 150 trainees of Government ITI, Dollygunj participated in the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chief Inspector of Factories/Labour Commissioner.
Accordingly, the Department of Labour, A&N Administration has scheduled a series of awareness programmes throughout the month to promote safety practices among industrial establishments and workers across the Islands.
