Landmark Judgments Uphold Justice in POCSO Cases: Two Offenders Sentenced to 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

Mayabunder, Oct. 29: The North & Middle Andaman District Police continue to uphold their unwavering commitment to justice, ensuring swift and decisive action against perpetrators of sexual crimes.

In two significant judgments delivered on 28/10/2025, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO), Shri Subhajit Basu, sentenced accused Sonu Tigga to 20 years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 20,000/- in connection with Crime No. 11/2023 of PS Baratang, and accused Pritam Biswas to 20 years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 20,000/- in connection with Crime No. 12/2023 of PS Kadamtala, both registered under various sections of POCSO Act, 2012.

These convictions stand as a testament to the diligent and determined efforts of the investigating teams. The investigation in Crime No. 12/2023 of PS Kadamtala was conducted by Sub-Inspector Mariam under the leadership of the then SHO, Sub-Inspector Abdul Rehman, while the investigation in Crime No. 11/2023 of PS Baratang was led by Sub-Inspector Silpi Singha under the supervision of the then SHO, Sub-Inspector Surjit Bhattacharjee. Their professionalism, dedication, and relentless pursuit of justice played a crucial role in securing these convictions and delivering justice to the victims.

This landmark judgment sends a strong and unequivocal message that crimes against children will invite the severest punishment. The Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterate their zero-tolerance policy toward such heinous offenses and remain steadfast in their mission to safeguard the rights and dignity of children.
