
Mayabunder, Sept. 15: The LMV driving SARTHINI Scheme, aimed at empowering women through skill development and self-reliance, was formally flagged off today by Shri Sushant Padha, IAS, ADM, Mayabunder at DC Office premises Mayabunder, N&M Andaman. The scheme focuses on providing Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Driving Training Classes exclusively for women, enabling them to gain access to better livelihood opportunities and promote safe, independent mobility.
The program was also attended by BDO Mayabunder, Asst Engineer, APWD, staff of Block Office apart from the enthusiastic local women. The scheme has been specially designed to encourage women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to take up driving as a professional skill, thereby enhancing their employability in sectors like Transport, Tourism, logistics, and related services.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasized that SARTHINI is more than just a driving training initiative and is a step towards women’s empowerment, gender equality, and economic inclusion in the Islands. The scheme is expected to create a positive impact by opening new avenues of income generation and by strengthening women’s participation in community development.
The program concluded with an orientation session for the first batch of trainees, who expressed great excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.
