
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 30: The commemoration of 82nd Anniversary of the first Flag Hoisting in A&N Islands by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was observed today. This event marks a pivotal moment in India’s history when the National Flag was first hoisted on the Islands, symbolizing the spirit of freedom and unity during the country’s struggle for independence.
The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) hoisted the National Tricolor at a solemn function held at Flag Point today. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, DGP, A&N Islands, Shri HGS Dhaliwal, IPS, PCCF, Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Prakash Adhikari, Councillors of SVPMC, Senior Officers of the Administration and general public were present on the occasion.
The commemoration serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of the A&N Islands in India’s freedom struggle. It was on these Islands that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, during his historic visit in December 1943, declared the A&N Islands as the first Indian Territory liberated from colonial rule and hoisted the tricolor. This annual event continues to inspire patriotism and a sense of collective pride among the citizens and serves as a tribute to the values of freedom and unity that define India as a nation.
