Lt. Governor Inaugurates Solar Power Facility at 05 Remote Look Out Posts of Andaman & Nicobar Police

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 3: On 03/06/2025, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral D. K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), inaugurated the successful installation of solar power panels at five far-flung Look Out Posts of Andaman & Nicobar Police— Narcondum Island, East Island, Burma Nallah, Interview Island, and Luis-in-Let Bay in the august presence of Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Islands and Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, DGP, A&N Islands.

These strategically located LOPs previously lacked dedicated power infrastructure and depended solely on diesel generator sets, which could be operated for only 2–3 hours per day. This limited power availability severely impacted the use of essential appliances like lights, fans, and water pumps, and made charging of communication equipment difficult. Police personnel stationed at these LOPs endured extremely challenging conditions, especially during the summer and monsoon seasons, due to heat and mosquito infestation.

The installation of solar energy systems has now ensured round-the-clock power supply to all five LOPs. The availability of 24×7 electricity has significantly enhanced the living and working conditions of personnel, enabling unrestricted use of lights, fans, and water pumps. It has also improved night-time visibility, communication capabilities, and overall operational readiness.

Additionally, the shift to solar energy has led to a substantial reduction in the use of diesel generators, resulting in lower fuel consumption and reduced dependency on fossil fuels, aligning with the broader vision of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly infrastructure in remote areas.

This initiative marks a major step towards improving the welfare of personnel deployed in remote locations and reflects the A&N Police’s continued commitment to sustainable development and national security.
