Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 6: The Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, has expressed serious concern over the prolonged and acute shortage of LPG gas cylinders faced by the residents of Campbell Bay. Despite repeated representations, protests and public agitations, the issue has remained unresolved for a long period, causing immense hardship to the people.
The last partial distribution of LPG cylinders in Campbell Bay was carried out in December 2025, while a limited number of beneficiaries received cylinders in January 2026. Since then, no further supply has been made to the island. As Campbell Bay is entirely dependent on cargo ships for the transportation of essential commodities, the absence of LPG supply has severely affected daily life and essential household needs.
It has been reported that a cargo ship is scheduled to sail from Sri Vijayapuram to Campbell Bay on 06.02.2026, but no arrangements have been made to load LPG cylinders on the vessel. In the past, similar situations have led to public unrest, protests and dharnas, highlighting the seriousness of the issue and the growing frustration among the residents.
Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has urged the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, to intervene immediately and ensure that adequate LPG gas cylinders are transported to Campbell Bay through the scheduled cargo ship without any further delay. He has also called upon the Administration to issue necessary directions to the concerned departments and agencies to prevent the recurrence of such shortages in the future.
The Hon’ble MP has also brought the matter to the notice of the Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, seeking urgent intervention and appropriate action.
