Member of Parliament Demands Setting Up of Blood Bank Facility at CHC Rangat

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 8: TheHon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, has urged the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, to take immediate steps for setting up a Blood Bank / Mini Blood Bank facility at Community Health Centre (CHC), Rangat, in view of the growing healthcare needs of the people of Middle Andaman region.

The MP highlighted that the absence of blood storage and transfusion facilities at CHC Rangat is causing serious hardship, especially to maternity patients, dialysis patients, severe anemia cases, emergency and accident victims. In many critical situations, non-availability of blood proves to be life-threatening and forces patients to seek urgent arrangements from distant centres.

Shri Bishnu Pada Ray further pointed out that although voluntary blood donors are readily available in the region, the lack of proper blood storage infrastructure prevents effective utilization of donated blood for needy patients.

Emphasising the importance of CHC Rangat as a key referral health centre catering to a large population, the MP stated that establishment of a blood bank facility has become a medical necessity under present circumstances.

The MP has requested the Lt. Governor to accord top priority and ensure early setting up of a Mini Blood Bank at CHC Rangat in the larger interest of patients, PRIs and the general public of the Islands.
