MP Raises Concern Over Mismanagement of JNRM’s Boys Hostel: Urges Administration to Ensure Proper Maintenance

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 26: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has expressed deep concern over the poor condition and lack of basic facilities in the JNRM Boys Hostel located near the JNRM College Complex.

During his recent casual visit to the hostel and interaction with the students, the Hon’ble MP observed that due to lack of proper supervision and poor management by the concerned authorities, the students of JNRM both boys and girls are facing severe hardships. The MP noted several critical issues such as:

-Non-availability of basic facilities like proper water supply and non-functional electrical equipment including fans, refrigerators and bathroom taps.

-Delay in attending repairs and replacements, often taking 3 to 6 months.

-Unhygienic hostel environment, with poorly maintained bathrooms and surroundings.

-Non-payment and delay in stipend disbursal, often beyond six months, causing financial distress to students.

-Non-revision of stipend amount, which has remained at ₹1,500 since 2015 despite rising living costs necessitating urgent enhancement.

-Lack of a proper drainage system, resulting in water logging during rains.

-Leakage from the hostel roof with no repairs carried out despite prior knowledge of the issue.

-Non-utilization of the newly constructed hostel building, lying idle for the past two years without being handed over for use.

The Hon’ble MP has urged the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, to take immediate cognizance of these lapses and ensure early restoration of all necessary hostel facilities. He further emphasized that the welfare of students the future of these islands must be treated with utmost priority.
