
New Delhi, Dec. 21: Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, accompanied by Shri Prakash Adhikari, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, met Dr. Vinod Kotwal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi on 19.12.2025 and submitted detailed representations on key healthcare concerns of the Islands for urgent consideration.
During the meeting, the Hon’ble MP highlighted the pressing need for posting of specialist doctors from the Central Health Services (CHS) cadre to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to strengthen specialist medical care;
Deputation of specialist doctors on a rotation basis until permanent postings are made; Creation and approval of 44 Health Worker posts (male and female) as proposed by the health department of A&N Administration pending with the Ministry, which are vital for improving healthcare delivery across the Islands.
The Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi gave a positive response and assured the Hon’ble MP that the matters would be examined on priority, necessary steps would be taken to expedite the process, and the outcome would be communicated in due course.
The Hon’ble MP expressed confidence that the Union Government will extend full support to address the long-pending healthcare needs of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
